CHRISTMAS COUNT DOWN

Christmas countdown banner

Friday, November 9, 2012

I am going to see the play "November" on Sunday.
Seems appropriate for this time of the year as Maxine says:

David Mamet's new Oval Office satire depicts one day in the life of a beleaguered American commander-in-chief.

It's November in a Presidential election year, and incumbent Charles Smith's chances for reelection are looking grim. Approval ratings are down, his money's running out, and nuclear war might be imminent. Though his staff has thrown in the towel and his wife has begun to prepare for her post-White House life, Chuck isn't ready to give up just yet. Amidst the biggest fight of his political career, the President has to find time to pardon a couple of turkeys — saving them from the slaughter before Thanksgiving — and this simple PR event inspires Smith to risk it all in attempt to win back public support. With Mamet's characteristic no-holds-barred style, November is a scathingly hilarious take on the state of America today and the lengths to which people will go to win.

CONGRESS NOT DOING ITS JOB

Blue Dogs Endorse No Budget No Pay Act
Coalition Says It's Time for Congress to work Together, Do It's Job

Even though I work for the federal government and am very familiar with continuing resolutions. At this level it means we do not thave the money to do the job we need to do. I did not realize how miserably congress has failed to do it's job:

Congress has not adopted a budget for more than 1,000 days. Over the past 36 years Congress has passed its appropriations bills on time only four times, and it has failed to pass an appropriations bill on time for the 15th straight year.

HAPPY WOMANS DAY

TODAY is International Women's Day, a great time to ponder all the great and glorious attributes of almost 51 percent of the U.S. Population.

FULL WORM MOON - MARCH

Tonight is the FULL WORM MOON of March
Full Moon names date back to Native Americans
As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins.
The more northern tribes knew this Moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter.
It is also known as the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night.
Another variation is Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees.
To the settlers, it was also know as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter.

The Lorax

Went with my son-in-law Bob and all the local grands except Mikey who chose to skip the movie.
It was a good movie in 3D.
We went to a new theatre that had refills on soda and popcorn.
I had sticker shock when the tickets and soda and popcorn were bought.
